For: All Suburban RV Water Heaters have an Anode Rod

  • Which absorbs all the Corrosive Action of Hot water.
    • Helps keep the Life of your Water Heater
    • Many Arenas in NZ have aggressive Water, Slightly acidic water is fine to drink & Wash with, but it can degenerate your Water Heater over Time
    • They have the Anodes in them because it Job is to break down instead of other components of the Water Heater
  • It is located on the bottom of the HWS under the main Burner, you simply unscrew this to drain the tank of water. If the rod is mostly eaten away, simply replace it with a new one.
    • Replace the Anode when it has lost 75% of its Metal – Usually yearly, but this is dependent on the quality of the water used and vary significantly

This genuine Suburban Anode Rod is made for use in the 4, 5 & 6 Gallon Tanks. Please be aware that some imitation anode rods can cause damage to your Suburban HWS.

Direction for Replacement: (VERY EASY TO REPLACE)

  1. Ensure the Water Heater is switched off from Gas & Electricity and isolated from the water flow
  2. Let the water in the Tank cool down (So you are not scalded)
  3. Remove the Old Anode using a 1 1/16″ (27mm) Socket)
  4. Wrap a couple of Layers of Teflon tape around the NEW Anode and insert it to seal
  5. Turn on water to Fill the tank. Then Gas & Electricity can be turned on
